There’s an expression that goes, “Good things come to those who wait.” You shouldn’t wait too long if you’re buying a home in Barron County! Wisconsin home sales roared into autumn, with September 2020 sales volume up 18.1% compared to September 2019. The median home sale price statewide rose to $229,900.
In Barron County, September 2020 home sales were the most active of any September on record, with 118 residences changing hands. The median home sale price in Barron County reached $208,928 in September, which is the highest for any September on record.
The pace of home sales is starting to slow, with days-on-market trending around 74. However, this could be due to some higher-priced homes on the market, which take longer to sell.
There are a couple things helping our real estate market. First, our statewide economy is doing better than the national average. In September, the WI unemployment rate was around 5.4%, compared to the national rate of 7.9%. At the same time, mortgage interest rates set new lows. This has helped keep home buying within reach, even as home prices rise.
But unless we see a good rise in the number of Barron County homes for sale, buyers shouldn’t expect bargains. We typically see prices soften a little during the last 8 weeks of the year, but 2020 has been anything but normal!
