Many homes in Northwestern Wisconsin and other areas of the state were built before 1984. Eventually, an older home will need a new roof, new windows, or updated plumbing and mechanical systems. Other needs might include mold remediation or lead-based paint removal.
If you own a Wisconsin home that is at least 40 years old, and you occupy it as a primary residence, WHEDA’s loan program could help you make repairs! WHEDA, the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority, offers theMore Like Home™ Repair and Renew Loan program for essential repair needs. Such as:
- Roof repair or replacement
- Window replacement
- Exterior door replacement
- Heating, electrical, or plumbing system repair
- Removal of lead paint, mold, asbestos, or other contaminants
There are a few conditions:
- Loan amounts may not exceed $50,000. The loan amount is determined by the repair needs.
- A licensed and insured contractor must complete the work.
- Income limits apply. For Barron and Rusk counties, the income limit is $136,360.
- The program is available while the money lasts. WHEDA has $50 million in funds available for this program.
WHEDA’s More Like Home™ Repair and Renew Loan can be applied for through participating lenders throughout Wisconsin. You can find a list of approved lenders on the WHEDA website. Check with your local bank as well.
