Can you believe it’s already September? Now is the time to look ahead to falling leaves, pumpkins, and cooler weather! But that’s not all— it is also the time to prepare your Chetek WI home for the new season ahead with a few maintenance tasks to check off of your list. You can take advantage of the currently beautiful temperatures to repair any issues with your property before that first frost arrives.
As your local real estate experts in the City of Lakes, Six Lakes Realty has included a few ideas for getting your Northwestern Wisconsin home in shape for the cooler months:
Check for gaps around windows
When the cooler weather sets in, we will all be tempted to turn on the heat to keep our homes warm. But that can be especially hard if you have gaps around your windows where air can escape! Take some time to walk around your property and inspect the windows, looking for any gaps or cracks. It may be a simple fix with a little caulk around the seams or if you need to replace the window entirely, take advantage of the weather now!
Clean out your gutters
Summer storms, along with wind and rain, can drop debris into the gutters around your Chetek WI home. Remove any leaves, limbs, sticks and stones from the gutters and if possible, run a hose through them to ensure they are in proper working order. If you find any leaks, you can repair them before the winter! After all, clogged gutters can cause a world of problems with snow and ice.
Have your HVAC system inspected
As I mentioned above, fall temperatures may prompt you to head to the thermostat. Consider having your HVAC system inspected now as when properly serviced, these systems will run more efficiently and last much longer.
Store all summer lawn furniture and garden tools
Summer can certainly allow for a build-up of garden tools, bikes and lawn furniture in your yard! Clean and store all of these items in your garage or storage shed for the season, keeping those that you think you may use more frequently in an easily accessible location. Clean, cover and store any outdoor furniture or grills in a safe place.
Redirect your ceiling fan
You may have changed the direction of your ceiling fan for the summer, so take a minute to redirect it for fall! The blades should rotate in a clockwise direction to redistribute the warm air from the ceiling to the rest of your home.
Tend to your yard
If your yard is healthy now, plan ahead to keep it that way for next year! Clear leaves, reseed any patchy areas, and consider fertilizing to promote more healthy grass in the spring.
