As we mentioned previously in our blog about lakefront homes, the Chetek Chain of Lakes consist of six interconnected lakes with over 3,800 acres of water. All six lakes are interconnected by navigable channels, making it easy to roam the entire chain by boat. Water levels are regulated by a dam between Lake Chetek and the Chetek River.
The Chetek Chain of Lakes include:
Prairie Lake. This is the largest lake in the chain, with a surface area of 1,545 acres, and a maximum depth of 16 feet. It’s popular for boating and fishing. While there are homes and resorts along the lake, a good amount of shoreline remains natural, providing a haven for wildlife and excellent locations for fishing.
Chetek Lake. Chetek Lake has a surface area of 683 acres, and a maximum depth of 22 feet. It’s home to the Hydroflites Waterski Show Team, and serves as the location for WinterFest and the fireworks of Liberty Fest. A public beach is operated by the City of Chetek.
Ojaski Lake. This 567-acre lake has a maximum depth of 15 feet, and is surrounded by native hardwoods, cultivated farm fields and wetlands. It’s a peaceful lake with abundant wildlife.
Pokegama Lake. This is a popular fishing lake with 494 surface acres and a maximum depth of 19 feet. Adjacent marshes support a variety of wildlife, and bald eagles have been known to frequent the lake.
Ten Mile Lake. This serene lake has 393 surface acres and a maximum depth of 10 feet.
Moose Ear Lake. With a surface area of 33.6 acres and a maximum depth of 6 feet, this is the smallest and shallowest lake on the chain. It has an abundance of fish and wildlife.
