Improved real estate inventory encouraged Northwestern Wisconsin home buyers to snap up properties during May 2025. Barron County saw 102 homes sold during the month, which is the highest transaction volume for any May on record.
Barron County home prices were strong as well. The median home sale price reached $289,950 during May 2025, which is the highest of any May on record. Homes took an average of 57 days to go under contract. About 35% of homes sold for more than the asking price.
Rusk County experienced a lower transaction volume, with 7 home sales during May 2025. However, the median home sale price was $306,000, the highest for any May on record. It’s also the 3rd-highest median sales price on record for any month in Rusk County during the past 19 years.
According to sales data from the Wisconsin REALTORS© Association, the median home price for the 18-county North Region was $285,000 in May 2025, the highest of any May on record. This trend continued statewide, with the Wisconsin median home sale price reaching $330,000 as of May 2025, another record for the month of May.
Home prices in Northwestern Wisconsin are pushing higher for several reasons. Home inventory has improved, but it remains below normal. Mortgage interest rates are stable. And despite the climb in home values we’ve experienced, our median home prices remain lower than Minnesota, and lower than the Madison and Chicago areas.
